Part research

Time to start getting a grasp of the new hardware technologies available. Post one: hard drives.

Obviously we're going SATA II here. I am doing a RAID mirror (1) with two Seagate drives minimum 1 TB.

15TB Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 SATA II (32mb Cache) - http://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/PID-MX21884(ME).aspx

1 TB (same specs but iwth NCQ) - http://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/PID-MX18814(ME).aspx

NCQ = native command queuing. Review @ http://techreport.com/articles.x/7750

simple. if it works.

But to read the conclusion, it really has little effect on benching at this time.

A review of the 1.5 TB @ http://techreport.com/articles.x/15730/12 also is alarming -

"The fact that the 1.5TB Barracuda excels in some arenas and stumbles badly in others makes me question Seagate's decision to pair its new 375GB platters with a year-old 7200.11 core. Even in its day, the original 7200.11 wasn't the fastest drive on the market; in some instances, the one-point-five is actually slower. If you're looking to cram as much capacity as possible into a 3.5" drive bay, the 'cuda is certainly the best option by a good 500GB. However, the drive's poor real-world write speeds make it a tough sell for PC enthusiasts who can find much better all-around performance elsewhere."

Renovationz

My parents came up for the weekend, and damn did we accomplish alot.

We finished drywalling the huge gouges that were made getting the couch downstairs, had someone in to look at the furnace, modified my garage door.... but most of our weekend was spent fixing the giant crack across the kitchen roof. We went up in the attic and threw down two large bags of insulation to prevent condensation from building up, then screwed in about 20 drywall screws from underneath into two studs. After that, Wayne put on a few layers of mud and we spent approx. 3 hours sanding that down. Looked like a ghost. But the ceiling now appears to be fixed, just needs some paint. Kayla...

Also, finally coming to some resolution on the cornucopia of fuckups that have plagued our backup system at work. November bonus should be stylin.

Colts won today, somehow. Sure wasn't because of Peyton's 125 yard effort. 18 for 25 , 125, 0/2 . Crazy. Only two home teams won today, one being the Sunday nighter.

Nicest November ever, temperature-wise. Threeish more months...

Well so much for my claim of updating frequently.

Honestly! It's been well over a month since my last post.

We moved into the house on October 17th and my first mortgage payment came out today. Pretty surreal - definitely a good decision though. I landed one of the last subprime mortgages and only time will tell if house prices drop substantially in the next few quarters.

The only major issue was getting this massive couch downstairs, but that only meant taking out a giant chunk of wall. No biggie. Other major issue was the freezer forgetting to work, and subsequent 21-gun salute to about 20 pounds of meat. It's currently sitting in the sunroom soaking in clorox.

Currently pricing out a new PC, PS3, and HD LCDTV (46-52") . That is the order of operations, as well. That combined with Cuba (Feb 13-10) means I have to save/budget even more than usual.

Work is going well, I have completed my probationary period so the raise went through and the bonuses started filtering in. Still have yet to miss a day.. today was pretty close though as we didn't stop partying in Regina until 7 PM last night. Had went there on Friday for a party and to meet up with friends, and Saturday turned into even more of a gong show as 5 schooners at Houston Pizza transformed into a no-sleep shitfight taking us from The Pump to Randal's to Juice's house to Carver's house (I think) to *can't remember* then to Rob's and Sean's . Ended up home around 1 AM.

Speaking of which, early bedtime.

Almost ready for the move

Left on Friday for the burg. Arrived in about 3.5 hours, went straight to Betz's and broke into the 66.

Betz could use some furniture.

After a few rounds of drinking hot shots we decided to head off to the hazy bar. It was pretty good times - saw Mikey, Tim, Layzer, Gale, Dawn, Sav to name a few. Headed back to Langenburg and KO'd at Dressler's, only to have a massive wolfdog wake me up my eating my face. Baxter and I then commenced to play 50 holes of hot shots and 9 holes of real golf - I somehow shot a 39 while barely able to swing.

I can't believe we got stopped by the cops during a THREE BLOCK drive. Just to drop off my clubs. What horrible, horrible luck. Now I'm not even sure if they're bringing the truck up this weekend to help me move. I'm SOL if they don't though.

Anyway, got back on Monday night with all of my small boxes and had a decent day at work. The CON's have a slightly bigger minority - whoop de do, thanks for wasting our cash. Significantly larger green vote which is slightly impressive, but utterly insignificant considering our voting system. I also heard that our turnout was something like 55% ???

If so,

i) we really do need voting reform
ii) shame.

Sitting here watching the football game. ten mintues ago, the Colts were down 27-10. Score now?

31-27.

Rosenfeld coughed up the ball twice in their last two drives, both turnovers resulting in scores ! Wayne had a one-handed circus catch to put them up by 4 with two minutes to play. What a turnaround, but the game isn't over yet..

AND HE THROWS A PICK. Rosenfeld's career may very well be over, I almost feel sorry for him.

This is unreal, the Colts were given this game on a silver platter.

Gym time.

I'M BA-ACK.

Think it's about time to give this whole blog thing another go! I know I've missed out on so much since I've been back. Let's see if I can throw down a brief sumemory . (summary of memory)

- back in Canada mid-May.
- golfed and chillaxed on the farm for a bit.
- moved to Winnipeg into Kayla's mom's basement.
- applied for jobs
- hired on at CBit, lasted 4 weeks until I was hired on at Clear Concepts ( www.clearconcepts.ca )
- arnage with Baxter, Betz, etc. on multiple occassions. THEY WERE ON THE FRIDGE ! and the dealer bounce into the rum cup.
- connect brang:
good:
  1. keg stands
  2. freee candyyyy calls from the creeper van and also while creeping around
  3. freaking people as frank ESPECIALLY alongside the 'eternal warpath'
  4. keg stands
  5. duelling 66's of spiced rum, consumed sunday before sundown
  6. people bleeding, myself included
  7. the free candy calls from the creeper van
  8. greg on sunday with his massive head injury
  9. friday night because milk really WAS a bad choice
  10. rasta's set.. although it wasn't near as epic as some from him i have heard
  11. meeting a few new people
  12. my gf finding me in notown and bringing me steak
  13. monday morning driving around with arek and brent
  14. keg stands
  15. canigeta b'WEEEYHNGGG?
  16. daytime escapes to moose jaw
  17. taco in a bag (although not as good as last year)
  18. finding arky and being gifted with Jarky
  19. BOCCE.
  20. and i'll round out the top 20 with two hours of keg stands

not good:
  1. losing arky
  2. losing the keg
  3. waking up monday and finding my $250 oakleys smashed (but fixable, i think)
After Connect, hammertime. Missed Shambhala for the first time in 4 years, and went home for my cousin's wedding instead. The kill switch, again, failed.

- bought a house - Union Ave E in Winnipeg. MLS 28170**. Move in mid-October. PRETTY EXCITED ABOUT THAT ONE. The house will be epic.

Just received a car and phone for work as well, which kicks boy-band ass. Zeppelin II will go home to Wayne and get sold, as it won't even pass safety here. Ha. Up for a raise in a month or so, to be determined.

What else what else .. despite all efforts (well not really), I'll be in the barren nuclear wasteland they call Winnipeg for quite some time - at least three years. I guess that's fair, considering that from August 2003 it has been:

Aug 03 - June 04 = Saskatoon
July 04 - Aug 04 = Langenburg
Sep 04 - May 05 = Medicine Hat
June 05 - Aug 06 = Saskatoon
Sep 06 - Oct 07 = Calgary
Nov 07 - May 08 = Thailand, Australia, Vietnam, Cambodia, etc.

A little settling, acquiring, learning and saving sounds like a plan to me.
